Fleas and Ticks

Fleas and ticks are uncomfortable, nasty and many times hard to kill pests. Long Point Pest Control has been helping clients with flea and tick control in Houston for decades using safe, effective whole-home solutions.

Tick Control

There are over 800 species of ticks worldwide. They can be found on humans and pets and they feed on blood in order to survive, grow, and multiply. Ticks are found mostly in outdoor spaces with tall grass or thick weeds but they can easily travel anywhere with the help of a host and are sometimes even found inside homes.

In addition to being repulsive pests, ticks are dangerous for humans and pets because they can spread diseases through their saliva once they attach to the body and feed on the blood. They are in fact one of the leading carriers of diseases to humans in the United States. Some of the tick-borne diseases are Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and meningoencephalitis.

Flea Control

Fleas are external parasites that are small, gross, and hard to kill. They live on animal — or human — hosts thanks to their ability to pierce skin and suck blood.

A flea can jump up to 7 inches vertically and 13 inches horizontally. They move easily through hair and feathers and their body can sustain intense pressure. These factors together mean they travel fast, spread fast, and are very hard to kill. A swat barely has any effect on a flea.

A flea bite is small but it can be painful and may give the host (you or your pet) red, swollen, and itchy areas. Many people are allergic to flea bites and can very well experience medical problems. Fleas can carry and infect the host with Murine typhus (aka endemic typhus), some rodent-specific diseases, tapeworms, cat scratch disease, and can even cause anemia.
